PUBG rules the phone screens of one and all!

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground popularly known as PUBG is thriving amongst people with its enthralling features. Released in December 2017, PUBG belongs to a new genre of video games, “Battle Royale Games”, won by the man who stands safe in the end. Initially restricted among hard-core gamers, PUBG has become a new sensation amongst one and all. The game became a huge hit among people of all age groups when a free of charge version for cell phones was launched in March 2018. it has been seen that the youngsters at large play PUBG for a maximum of their free time. A few also organize and attend PUBG championships. 

With monsoon restricting the outdoor movement, PUBG helps the youth to log on to this online game which can be played in groups. For college students, it’s the best activity to be involved in when not attending lectures or taking a break with assignments. Collegians can be seen engrossed in their mobile phones trying to gain weapons and protect their characters from their opponents. Also, some dedicated players spend the majority of their time in gaming to go one step ahead of their opponents. This has become the latest trend in the gaming industry in this era.

Once in a while, there comes a game that takes the gaming industry and rules it, for now, it’s PUBG. PUBG is a huge hit as players can play with their peers or pick someone from around the world as their ally. The game is stacked with enthusiasm and features designed proficiently to surpass the expectations of gamers. Players have multiple facilities such as they can speak on the mic while playing, revert phone calls and also during phone calls they can update their assignments and alike. Moreover, the game boasts of the possession of the best graphics for a mobile phone game. It is also said to be more elaborate and complex than other battle royal games.

However, it also takes a toll on the academics as it has become an addiction for some students. Students, unaware of this habit, begin investing 4 to 5 hours a day in the video game. The game is based on mods created by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene for other games which were inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale. The same expanded into a standalone game under Greene’s creative direction. In PUBG, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons to kill others while avoiding getting killed. The available safe area of the game’s map decreases in size over time and directs the survivors into smaller land portions to incite encounters. The last player standing wins the round.

Battlegrounds have received positive reviews from critics. It was found that though the game had some technical flaws, it presented new methods of gameplay that could be easily approached by players of any skill level. It was also seen that the game is highly-replayable. The game was attributed to popularizing the battle royale genre, with several unofficial Chinese clones also being produced following its success. The game also received several nominations as, “Game of the Year,” among other accolades. PUBG has run several small tournaments and introduced in-game tools to help with to broadcast the game to spectators, as they wish for it to become a popular e-sport. The game has also been banned by some authorities based on the allegation of being harmful and addictive for young players.

A few students have also given their comments on using PUBG and how it is affecting their lives-

“We spent the entire summer vacation playing PUBG. Unable to play football during Ramadan, we spent most of our time gaming online. I still play it for an hour a day — during lunch break and at home,” said Shaheer Husain, an IT student.

“We are a group of 10 people — some are students and others are professionals — who play PUBG almost every day till 4 am,” said Rushikesh Bote, B.Com student, KM Agarwal College, Kalyan.

“I have started playing PUBG 10 days ago. There are some in my college who bunk lectures to play the game,” said Nihar Ambedkar, a student at MD College, Parel.

Students have given their experiences with playing the game. It is like a new revolution which has started and blown us all with it.
